Indian captain Virat Kohli has admitted that his team is 'more or less sorted' for the upcoming World Cup despite losing the ODI series to Australia on home turf.
India, who won the first two ODIs, juggled between several combination throughout the series, with MS Dhoni rested for the final two fixtures. Apart from the openers – Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan – only the likes of Kedar Jadhav, Virat Kohli and Vijay Shankar played all the ODIs.
These experiments though couldn't give a fair outlook as to how India would field their XI at the World Cup; especially at number 4. The captain, however, has said that there's only one spot remaining to be discussed while the team is more or less sorted.
"We're more or less sorted, maybe there's just one spot we have to discuss," said the captain during the post-match presentation.
"We are sorted combination wise. We know our playing XI going into the World Cup. There will be just one change based on condition. When Hardik Pandya will come back, he gives depth in batting and opens up options in bowling. We know where we are going. We are clear about our playing XI," Kohli said at the post-match press conference.
The hosts went a plethora of bowling options for the final ODI at Delhi with KL Rahul making his way for pacer Mohammed Shami, while Ravindra Jadeja, who played at number 7, was also called to replace Yuzvendra Chahal. Virat, however, has said that calling these experiments for the defeat would not be a right thing.
"The last three games, the idea was to give the guys on the bench and the fringe guys a bit of game time as well and just put them in those positions and see how they react," he said at the post-match presentation.
"And you couldn't have tried that anywhere else apart from those three games. That is not an excuse at all because we expect to raise our standard of cricket. The changes [in the playing XI] is not an excuse. It will never be an excuse. But we used these three games to give game time to guys who we think are good enough to perform at this level."
