As we approach the eagerly-anticipated start to the 2023 World Cup in India on Thursday, October 5, fans have been keen on news surrounding the opening ceremony for the tournament, which is a common tradition for such major cricketing events.

The last time the World Cup was held in the Indian sub-continent in 2011, there was a grand opening ceremony in Dhaka to entertain fans before the showpiece 50-over event got underway.

As per earlier reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had initially planned a big opening ceremony at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which is the venue for the first match of World Cup 2023 between England and New Zealand.

The opening ceremony was expected to feature household names from Bollywood like Ranveer Singh, Tamannaah Bhatia, Sheyas Ghoshal, Asha Bhosle, and Arijit Singh to name a few.

These stars were expected to perform in the opening ceremony and entertain fans along with fireworks and a laser show to usher in the start of the 2023 ODI World Cup.

However, based on recent developments, these plans seem to have been shelved with no official announcement on the World Cup 2023 opening ceremony date.

What is the World Cup 2023 opening ceremony date?

Based on multiple reports, there will be no opening ceremony for the 2023 ODI World Cup in India much to the disappointment of fans.

While earlier reports had indicated that a star-studded opening ceremony was scheduled to take place from 7:00 PM IST on October 4 following the Captains’ Day event, the latest development suggests otherwise.

That said, the Captains’ Day event is still slated to be held on October 4 at Narendra Modi Stadium.

All the captains of the 10 participating nations at the 2023 World Cup will be present for the Captains’ Day event, which is expected to begin at 2:30 PM IST on Wednesday.

The Captains’ Day event is a customary tradition that takes place prior to the start of every ODI World Cup

“The Captains’ Day media event at Banquet Hall of the GCA clubhouse will begin at 2:30 PM sharp. Media must be seated by 2:15 pm to start the live broadcast of the event,” an ICC advisory said on Tuesday.
