The Women’s Big Bash League 2024 will kickstart at the Adelaide Oval in Australia on Sunday, October 27.
Defending champions Adelaide Strikers Women will meet Brisbane Heat Women in the opening match, in a repeat of last season’s final, at 8:10 AM IST on Sunday. Live streaming and telecast of the Women’s Big Bash League 2024 will be available in India.
Organised by Cricket Australia, the Women’s T20 tournament will have eight teams vying for the title in a total of 43 matches to be played over the next month.
Melbourne Stars Women, Melbourne Renegades Women, Sydney Sixers Women, Sydney Thunder Women, Hobart Hurricanes Women and Perth Scorchers Women are the other sides in the tournament.
Each team will play a total of 10 matches, including two against three opponents and one against the other four sides, in the group stage.
The top four teams after the league engagements will progress to the knockout phase of the tournament with the team standing first directly proceeding to play the final of the Women’s Big Bash League 2024.
Teams placed third and fourth will play in a knockout match scheduled on November 27 with the winner of the game taking on the second-placed side in the points table in the Challenger contest on November 29.
The team that wins the Challenger match will progress to meet the table toppers in the final of the Women’s Big Bash League 2024 scheduled to happen on December 1.
Like the last season, there will be plenty of Indians participating in WBBL 2024. Six Indian players will be part of the Women’s Big Bash League 2024 including star batter Smriti Mandhana who will turn up for the Adelaide Strikers.
Jemimah Rodrigues and Shikha Pandey will represent Brisbane Heat while Dayalan Hemalatha will be part of Perth Scorchers.
Yastika Bhatia and Deepti Sharma will wear the Melbourne Stars jersey in the tournament this year.
Adelaide Strikers are the defending champions of the Women’s Big Bash League having won the title for the last two years. They beat Brisbane Heat by three runs in a thrilling and low-scoring final in 2023.
