Wisden reveals five Cricketers of the Year in April 2025

The Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack 2025 edition is set to release on 24th April 2025, but they have already named the winners for the Cricketers of the Year award. Here are the winners and a summary of their feats this year:
- Gus Atkinson (Surrey) – He had a sensational test in summer 2024, claiming 34 wickets and scoring his maiden Test century against Sri Lanka. He was also awarded the Bob Willis Trophy for England’s Player of the Year with this stunt.Â
- Jamie Smith (Surrey) – Smith made his Test debut in the summer of 2024 and provided significant contributions to Surrey throughout the season. Smith didn’t have a flashy feat like the others, but Wisden recognised his consistency.
- Sophie Ecclestone (England) – She won the JM Finn Women’s Cricket Award at the 2024 Cricket Writers' Club Awards in November for her astounding play. Ecclestone also became the fastest to score 100 ODI wickets with just 63 innings.Â
- Dan Worrall (Surrey) – Worrall became the standout player in domestic cricket, claiming 52 wickets at an average of 16 runs per inning. He played a key role in Surrey County Cricket Club’s success as they secured their third successive County Championship title.Â
- Liam Dawson (Hampshire) – He is an effective all-rounder in county cricket, taking 71 wickets and scoring 1,280 runs across all formats. Dawson also earned the PCA Men’s Player of the Year Award in 2024 for his pivotal role in Hampshire’s strong performances in both the County Championship and One-Day Cup.
Wisden’s Five Cricketers of the Year 2025 represent the pinnacle of excellence in English cricket. Their remarkable performances and unwavering consistency throughout the season have set a new benchmark, inspiring future generations to aim higher and dream bigger.
