Vaibhav Suryavanshi scripted history as he became the youngest player to be sold in the Indian T20 League auction history.

After an intense bidding war between Rajasthan and Delhi, Vaibhav Suryavanshi was bought by inaugural Indian T20 League champions Rajasthan for a whopping INR 1.1 crore at the Abady Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on November 25, 2024.

Who is Vaibhav Suryavanshi?

Vaibhav Suryavanshi is a 13-year-old cricket prodigy who hails from Samastipur, Bihar. According to reports, Vaibhav Suryavanshi started playing cricket at the age of four when his father Sanjeev spotted his love for the game. He later developed a small playing area in their backyard.

Vaibhav later started practicing at a Samastipur cricket academy when he was just nine years old.

At the age of 12, he made his debut for Bihar in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy. He then amassed almost 400 runs in just five matches.

In January 2024, Vaibhav Suryavanshi made his First-Class debut for Bihar against Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 at the age of 12 years and 284 days. 

With the incredible feat, the left-handed batter became the second youngest player to feature in a Ranji Trophy match for Bihar and the fourth-youngest Indian to make his debut in a recorded First-Class game.

Earlier, Suryavanshi hogged the limelight for Bihar in the Cooch Behar Trophy 2023 after he scored a 128-ball 151 against Jharkhand, which was laced with 22 fours and three maximums.

Suryavanshi also featured in a quadrangular series that included India U19 A, India U19 B, England U19 and Bangladesh U19. He recorded scores of 53, 74, 0, 41 and 0 in the tournament.

Suryavanshi later grabbed the headlines after he recorded the fastest century by an Indian at the youth level. During the Youth Test series against Australia in Chennai, the swashbuckling batter slammed a century off just 58 balls, only behind England’s Moeen Ali who achieved the milestone in 56 balls. He was later dismissed for 104 off 62 balls.

After becoming a crorepati at the mere age of 13, it will be interesting to see how Suryavanshi performs at the upcoming edition of the Indian T20 League.
