The West Indies vs South Africa Test 2024 series will start at the Queen's Park Oval  in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday, August 7.

The upcoming West Indies vs South Africa Test 2024 series is part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25.

As per the West Indies vs South Africa Test 2024 schedule, the second and final game will be played at the Providence Stadium in Guyana from August 15.

Having registered one win and three losses, South Africa are currently placed seventh in the WTC 2023-25 points table and standings while West Indies are languishing at the bottom of the standings with one victory, five defeats and one draw so far.

Ranked eighth in the ICC men’s Test team rankings, the West Indies cricket team will aim to bounce back after suffering a 0-3 series defeat against England in the recently concluded three-match series in the United Kingdom.

Ahead of the series, West Indies have announced their Test squad to be led by captain Kraigg Brathwaite.

Vice-captain Alzarri Joseph has been rested for the upcoming Test series due to workload management. In the absence of the star pacer, wicketkeeper-batter Joshua Da Silva has been named Kraigg Brathwaite’s deputy.

Off-spinner Kevin Sinclair, who was part of the squad for the England series, has also missed out as he continues his recovery from an injury.

Meanwhile, veteran pacer Kemar Roach has been included in the squad after he recovered from his knee injury.

Apart from Roach, the likes of Keacy Carty, Bryan Charles, Jomel Warrican and Justin Greaves have been included for the South Africa Test series.

On the other hand, the South Africa national cricket team will head into the Test series after they played a tour match against West Indies Championship XI. The four-day warm-up game ended in a draw.

The world’s fourth-ranked Test side last featured in a Test series against New Zealand in February. Having fielded a second-string side, South Africa lost the two-match Test series 0-2.

Temba Bavuma will lead the Proteas in the upcoming two-match Test series.

Swashbuckling top-order batter Matthew Breetzke has earned his maiden Test call-up for the West Indies tour.

David Bedingham, Dane Paterson and Dane Piedt are the only players that have retained their places in the squad from South Africa's makeshift squad that toured New Zealand.

Wicketkeeper-batter Ryan Rickelton has been recalled after he last featured in the home series against West Indies in March 2023. He will compete with Kyle Verreynne for the wicketkeeper-spot at No.6.
