After clinching the T20I and ODI series in England, the Indian cricket team will lock horns with West Indies in a white-ball series starting on Friday, July 22.
India’s Caribbean tour starts with a three-match ODI series followed by five T20I matches.
For the ODI format, the visitors have rested several of their star players including captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya and Mohammed Shami.
In the absence of Rohit, Shikhar Dhawan will lead the 16-man ODI squad while all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been named Dhawan’s deputy.
Opener Shubman Gill and wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson have been recalled to the ODI squad. Samson has been added in place of in-form Rishabh Pant and will be the second wicket-keeper option while Ishan Kishan will be the first-choice gloveman.
The BCCI has also decided to rest Kohli, Bumrah and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal for the five-match T20I series.
Rohit will return to lead the T20I squad comprising the likes of Pant, Pandya, KL Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja.
While Rahul and Kuldeep have been included in the 18-man squad subject to fitness clearance, off-spinner Ashwin also returns to the T20I set-up ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.
West Indies have also announced their ODI squad for the India series. Led by wicket-keeper batter Nicholas Pooran, the West Indies ODI squad will also see the return of their former captain Jason Holder.
Holder was rested for the recently-concluded ODI home series against Bangladesh, where the Caribbean outfit succumbed to a 0-3 whitewash.
All the India tour of West Indies 2022 ODIs will be played at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad. Following the completion of the ODI series, the first T20I is scheduled to be played at Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad while the next two T20Is will be played at Warner Park in St Kitts.
The Men in Blue will later travel to the United States to play the final two T20Is at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Florida.
