After an exciting opening day’s action, Day 2 of the Virtual Five5 Cricket World Championship 2020 saw more of the same continue in the simulated reality league cricket tournament on an individual front.
Among the many standout performances on the day, Armand Finch’s impressive contribution toward AUS's successful chase of BAN and Hanif Amla’s own chase for SA that finally halted the AUS steamroller stood out.
We take a closer look at two of the best batting performances from the second day of the tournament.
Finch vs BAN
Coming off sweeping both matches on Day 1, AUS fired on all cylinders again on Day 2. After opting to ball first and checking the BAN score at 42/1, the AUS chase led by Finch saw them win by nine wickets.
Finch and Daniel Werner opened the scoring for AUS. Werner was scalped by Shakib Al Hasen in the third over for a paltry six runs. However, Finch muscled his way to a 12-ball 26 in an innings laced with four boundaries.
Finch and Sam Smith’s 22-run stand secured victory for their side with three balls to spare.
Amla vs AUS
After winning the first three matches of the tournament on the trot, AUS were finally brought down to earth by SA, whose decision to field first was validated by a successful chase anchored by Hanif Amla.
Quincy De Kock led the charge with 12 runs off eight balls and following his dismissal, Fabian du Plessis picked up where he left off, with both men sending in a couple of fours. But the star of the show was Hanif Amla, who racked up 32 runs from 15 balls. Amla’s innings included four boundaries, meaning he ran for 16 of those 32 runs that were scored from 11 balls.
