The third day of the second week of Virtual Cricket Tournament 2020 saw six matches being played on Thursday, June 11. There were some memorable performances in the simulated reality league cricket tournament, and here, we look at what transpired through the day and bring you the summary of each game.
IND vs ENG, Match 13: IND won by 39 runs
After a dreadful performance in the second day of virtual cricket, IND bounced back in style against ENG in what was a rather one-sided affair. Having elected to bat, IND posted 69/2 in five overs, with both of their openers giving a perfect headstart. A late blitz by captain Viraj Kohli and KL Rajul did the rest as IND finished their innings on a high.
Despite posting a comfortable total on board, the IND bowlers restricted ENG to just 30, with Jasprit Bamra picking two wickets, while Rajindra Jadeja three. None of the bowlers conceded more than 10 runs in an over.
AUS vs SA, Match 14: AUS won by seven runs
High-flyers AUS continued their domination in the third day of the simulated reality league cricket tournament by registering a seven-run win over SA. Having put in to bat first, AUS scored 46/0 in five overs, with captain Armand Finch scoring 20 off just nine deliveries.
With a moderate score on board, Finch’s team needed a disciplined bowling effort, which was duly delivered by the likes of Andy Zampa, Michael Starc and Nelson Coulter-Nile, as they restricted SA to 39/4.
NZ vs PAK, Match 15: Pak won by seven wickets
A brilliant batting effort from PAK saw them registering a seven-wicket victory over NZ after restricting their opponents to 41.2 in five overs. NZ, who lost their first wicket in very first over of the game, managed to steady the ship after Callum Munro and captain Ken Williamson put on a 29-run stand, but a slow run-rate meant they were unable to post a competitive total.
PAK, on their part, did lose more wickets, but reached their target in 4.1 overs, riding on the back of Baba Azem’s 12-ball 18.
IND vs AUS, Match 16: AUS won by four runs
AUS won their sixth e-cricket match in a row, this time defeating IND by four runs. After electing to bat, Finch’s side had a nervy start as they lost Daniel Warner in the first delivery of the game, while the captain himself was dismissed in the second over. The likes of Sam Smith and Glen Maxwall stepped and took AUS to a decent position before Pat Handscomb played his cameo to put 51/4 on board.
IND, on the other hand, kept on losing wickets, and unlike AUS, failed to put runs on board. Opener Shikhar Dhaven scored 19 in 11 balls, but IND fell four runs short.
ENG vs SA, Match 17: SA won by two runs
After an emphatic 20-run victory over NZ on the second day of the virtual cricket, SA registered a narrow two-run won over ENG on Thursday.
Having lost Quincy de Kock in the very first delivery of the innings, Hanif Amla, captain Fabian du Plessis and JP Dominic took the matter in their own hands, guiding SA from 18/2 to 58/5 in five overs.
END, like SA, lost an early wicket but put on a 26-run stand for the second wicket. However, despite a spirited show, they fell two runs short of their target, finishing at 56/2 after five overs.
NZ vs PAK, Match 18: PAK won by eight wickets
After a seven-wicket win over the similar opponent early in the day, PAK squared off their day with an eight-wicket win over NZ in the final game of the day.
NZ were sent in to bat, and despite having a positive start, they stumbled on their way. A scintillating effort by Chris de Grandhomme late in the game though brought NZ right on track as they posted 54/3 on board.
For PAK, they too made a brilliant start, but contrary to NZ’s batting performance, they didn’t lose wickets, reaching their target in 4.4 overs and with eight wickets in hand.
