Left-arm spinner Aditya Sarvate was the pick of the bowlers, managing 5 and 6 wickets in the first and second innings respectively to help his side to a second successive Ranji trophy. He was named as the man of the match for his cumulative 11 wickets and scoring a crucial 49 in the second innings of Vidarbha’s batting.
The Vidarbha team, who are coached by former Indian player Chandrakant Pandit and boast the likes of former Test opener Wassim Jaffer and pacer Umesh Yadav in their starting 11, managed a meagre five-run lead after both teams had batted once. Then on a track that was turning square, fighting knocks by Mohit Kale and Sarwate managed to get to a score of 200.
Sarwate then shone with the ball as well, picking up the wicket of India’s Test stalwart Cheteshwar Pujara for a score of zero. Vishvaraj Jadeja scored a gritty half-century but fell short of partners in the other end with his team eventually being bowled out for 127.
