Three Asian teams - Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan - will participate in the Under-19 Tri-Nations ODI Series in Abu Dhabi from March 18 to 30. All the matches will be available for live streaming in India.
Each team will play the other two teams in a double round-robin format and the top two teams will make it to the final on March 30. All seven matches, including the final, will be played at Tolerance Oval in Abu Dhabi.
This tournament is being hosted by Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) with an eye on the U19 Asia Cup in December this year and also the U19 World Cup scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka early next year. All three teams have made the cut for the next year’s World Cup and also the Asia Cup.
Apart from the tri-series, Afghanistan is also scheduled for two matches each against the same two sides on the tour in a couple of bilateral series. These matches are also scheduled to be played at the Tolerance Oval.
Afghanistan started their tour on a high with a 158-run victory over Bangladesh on March 13 in the first bilateral series. Sohail Khan scored an unbeaten 100 from 113 balls to help Afghanistan mount a total of 271/6 in 50 overs. A collective bowling effort from Afghanistan bundled out Bangladesh for a paltry 113 in just 26.5 overs. Afghanistan and Bangladesh will meet again on March 15.
Afghanistan will play Sri Lanka outside the tri-series in the bi-lateral format on April 1 and 3.
While wicket-keeper batter Noman Shah is expected to continue leading Afghanistan on the tour, batter Sharear Shakib will captain Bangladesh. Sri Lanka is expected to be led by skipper Shevon Daniel but his participation in the tour is subject to fitness.
