The Uganda Women’s cricket team, on Thursday, scripted history by recording the highest total of 314 runs in a Twenty20 international against Mali Women at the Gahanga International Stadium in the Rwanda. This is now the highest total in the history of the shortest format of the game, breaking England women's 250/ 3 against South Africa women a year ago.
Uganda posted the total in the ongoing Kwibuka Women’s Twenty20 Tournament.
Electing to bat first, Uganda opener Prosscovia Alako and Immaculate Nakisuuyi posted 82 in just 5.4 overs. Following the latter’s dismissal, captain Rita Musamali and Alako continued wreaking havoc on the back of which the team registered 314/2 in 20 overs. While Alako ended her innings on 116 off 71 deliveries, the skipper scored an unbeaten 103 off 61 balls.
Meanwhile, only one six – from Nakisuuyi – was hit during the innings. Mali, on their part, bowled 61 extras (b 3, nb 30, w 28).
Oumou Sow, of Mali, ended her tenure as the most expensive bowler by conceding a whopping 82 runs in mere three overs. Mala Djiguiba gave away 20 runs in her solidary over, while Aicha Kone remained the only wicket-taker from the team. Tenin Konate, on the other hand, was the most economical of all, conceding 32 from her four overs.
In return, Mali were dismissed for mere 10 runs in 11.1 overs, and as many as six players went for a duck. That being said, Uganda registered the biggest victory in T20 Internationals by 304 runs, surpassing the previous best in women's T20Is which came when UAE beat China by 189 runs in January. For Mali, the defeat has come just two days after being bowled out for six runs by Rwanda, which is the lowest ever total in T20I history.
