The Sri Lanka vs West Indies T20I series 2024 will commence on Sunday, October 13.

The first of the three-match T20I series will be played at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla starting at 7:00 PM IST on Sunday.

The second game will start on October 15 while the third match is scheduled on October 17. All the T20I matches will be played at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium.

The T20I series between Sri Lanka and West Indies will be followed by a three-match ODI series.

Rovman Powell will continue as the skipper of the West Indies T20I team after leading the side to the Super 8s in the T20 World Cup 2024 campaign at home. All-rounder Roston Chase will be his deputy in this series.

Brandon King returns to the team after recovering from a side injury he suffered during the T20 World Cup. Big hitters Romario Shepherd and Sherfaine Rutherford also found a place in the 15-member squad which will also have the all-rounder duo of Terrance Hinds and Shamar Springer who received their maiden international call-up.

The pace department will be manned by the potent duo of Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka have named a 17-member team with Charith Asalanka continuing as captain of the side. 

Bhanuka Rajapaksa, who has not played for Sri Lanka since January 2023, returns to the fold along with Wanindu Hasaranga who picked up an injury in a T20I series against India in July.

Leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay also found a place in the shorter format after his impressive performance against India in the ODIs in August. 

Dinesh Chandimal and Chamindu Wickramasinghe, who made his debut against India in the T20I series, continue to be part of the team.

West Indies arrive in Sri Lanka with the confidence of the 3-0 drubbing of South Africa in the T20I series at home in August. 

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka suffered a 0-3 clean sweep at home at the hands of World Champions India in their last assignment in cricket’s shortest format.

Currently, West Indies are ranked third in the ICC men’s T20I rankings whereas Sri Lanka are in eighth place.

Sri Lanka holds a thin edge over West Indies in the overall T20 head-to-head record between both sides. In 15 T20I matches between both sides, the Lankans have won a total of eight matches compared to West Indies’ seven.

Sri Lanka last met the West Indies in the 2021 T20 World Cup in Abu Dhabi in November 2021 with the Lankans winning the contest by 20 runs.
