Following two back-to-back Test defeats, the Sri Lankan cricket team is now set to host the world champions, England, for a two-match Test series, starting January 14 at the Galle International Stadium.
For England, this Test match against Sri Lanka marks the beginning of their scheduled 17 Test matches in 2021. Following their tour of Sri Lanka, the England cricket team will lock horns with India in a full-fledged series away from home.
It’s been more than two years since England toured Sri Lanka. Interestingly, the latter has played a mere two home Test matches since. England, on the other hand, have played a total of 21 Tests during the period.
The particular series, which is a part of the World Test Championship, was initially scheduled in March 2020, but the pandemic forced the English side to stay put. Watch the Sri Lanka vs England Test series live in India on streaming and on TV.
A lot has changed since, as England decided to rest the likes of Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes to keep the duo fit for the India series. Furthermore, with Ollie Pope out, Jonny Bairstow has been recalled to the squad.
The biggest blow, however, is the absence of Moeen Ali, who has been ruled out after testing positive for the virus. Meanwhile, seamer Chris Woakes is unlikely to feature as well after just finishing his seven-day isolation.
