The lifetime ban on Indian pacer and 2011 World Cup-winning squad member, S. Sreesanth has been reduced to seven years as announced by BCCI’s Ombudsman Justice DK Jain on Tuesday. The Kerala-based bowler was handed the ban after his alleged involvement in match-fixing in the 2013 Indian T20 League, alongside Rajasthan teammates Ajith Chandela and Ankeet Chavan.

The 36-year old is well past his prime and has served six years of his ban already. Thus, as per the new turn of events, he will be eligible to play all forms of cricket from September 2020, something he would be looking forward to albeit the age concern.
In 2013, amidst major media coverage, Sreesanth was sentenced for accepting 10 Lac rupees and giving away 14 runs in his second over in an Indian T20 League match. His call recordings were presented as the proof to ascertain his involvement, but the pacer has vehemently denied the charges over the years.
The cricketer-turned-actor has played 27 Tests, 53 ODIs and 10 T20Is for India, claiming 169 wickets across all formats. Apart from the 2011 World Cup-winning squad, he was also a member of the team which lifted the 2007 T20I World Cup in South Africa.
