The South Africa vs Sri Lanka Test 2024 cricket series will start in Durban on Wednesday, November 27.

The upcoming two-match Test series is part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25.

As per the South Africa vs Sri Lanka Test 2024 schedule, the first match will be played at the Kingsmead Cricket Ground in Durban.

The second and final Test is scheduled to be played at the St George's Park in Gqeberha starting on December 5.

Ranked third in the ICC men’s Test team rankings, South Africa have played eight Tests in the current WTC cycle. 

With four wins, one draw and three defeats, South Africa are placed fifth in the WTC 2023-25 standings with a points percentage of 54.17. They are scheduled to play four more Tests in the ongoing WTC cycle.

Ahead of the two-match Test series, the South Africa cricket team has announced their 14-man squad to be led by Temba Bavuma.

Captain Temba Bavuma has recovered from his elbow injury and will lead the Proteas in the crucial series.

Furthermore, the hosts have received a massive boost with the return of Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee.

The likes of Lungi Ngidi and Nandre Burger were unavailable for selection due to injuries.

South Africa last featured in a two-match Test series against Bangladesh, which they clinched 2-0 away from home in October.

On the other hand, the Sri Lanka cricket team will head into the series brimming with confidence, having registered series wins over India, New Zealand and West Indies across all formats.

Currently ranked sixth in the ICC men’s Test team rankings, Sri Lanka are placed third in the WTC 2023-25 standings with five wins and four losses.

Apart from the upcoming two-match Test series in South Africa, Sri Lanka are scheduled to play two more Tests against Australia at home in the ongoing WTC cycle.

With a place in next year’s WTC final up for grabs, Sri Lanka have also named their 17-member squad for the upcoming Test series to be led by Dhananjaya de Silva.

Left-arm spinner Lasith Embuldeniya and pacer Kasun Rajitha have made a comeback in Sri Lanka’s Test squad.

The South Africa vs Sri Lanka Test head-to-head record favours the Proteas. South Africa have won 16 of the 31 Tests that they have played against each other. Sri Lanka have registered nine victories so far. As many as six Tests have ended in draws.

The last time these two sides met, South Africa secured a 2-0 series win in a two-match series at home in January 2021.
