After hosting India in a series consisting of a Test match, three T20Is and three ODIs, England are now set to take on South Africa in three ODIs, three T20Is and three Test matches starting from Tuesday, July 19.
The South Africans will be playing separate teams in all three formats of the game under different captains with a few common faces in the Test, T20I and ODI formats.
Dean Elgar will captain the Test team, Keshav Maharaj will be the ODI skipper and David Miller will be the T20I skipper for the Proteas. England, on the other hand, will play under Jos Buttler in the limited-overs format.
England head into this tournament after a series against India where they lost 1-2 in both T20Is and ODIs in their own backyard. South Africa’s last outing was also against India, where they drew 2-2 with the hosts after the final match was abandoned due to rain.
For this series, the Englishmen will have Adil Rashid’s services back in the One Day International squad after he missed the series against India for personal reasons. The squad will also have a spot for ODI debutant Matthew Potts, who made an impressive international cricket debut in home Tests earlier this season.
Temba Buvama, who led the Proteas’ charge in India, will have to sit out any cricket action for at least the next eight weeks after sustaining an elbow injury in a T20I against India at Rajkot in June 2022. His absence has given opportunities to multiple players across formats to play for the team.
