Defending champions Sydney Sixers (SIX) will lock horns with Melbourne Stars (STA) in the opening match of Big Bash League 2021-22 at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday, December 5.
Under the leadership of Australia all-rounder Moises Henriques, Sydney Sixers defeated Perth Scorchers by 27 runs in the previous edition of the BBL final to claim their third title.
On the other hand, Stars had a disappointing BBL campaign last time around, winning just five of their 14 matches. The Glenn Maxwell-led side finished seventh in the BBL 2020-21 standings.

Adam Zampa will be the bowler to watch out for in the first match of BBL 2021-22. The Melbourne Stars leg-spinner had bagged 19 wickets in 12 matches in BBL 2020-21 and is tipped to trouble the Sixers batting line-up on Sunday. Considering the nature of the pitch at SCG, the 29-year-old is expected to play an important role for the Stars.

In terms of the all-rounders on show, picking Melbourne Stars captain Glenn Maxwell in your fantasy cricket team is a no-brainer. The swashbuckling all-rounder is a match-winner and had also scored 379 runs in 14 matches last season. He can also contribute with his off-spin.
For the wicket-keeper spot, Sixers’ Josh Philippe will be the preferred choice over Seb Gotch of Stars.
