Australia all-rounder Sean Abbott reportedly walked off the field on the second day of the practice game against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground, citing calf tightness.
Abbott bowled seven overs in the first session on Saturday but did not return after the tea break. The 28-year-old, who had registered figures of 7-1-24-0 before he stepped out of play, was initially noticed to be nursing his left ankle.
However, it was later confirmed that the all-rounder experienced tightness in his calf muscles and couldn’t continue bowling for the rest of the game.
Abbott’s injury comes at a time when the Australian squad is plagued with injuries of prolific opener David Warner (groin injury) and Will Puckovski, who was ruled out of contention for the first Test against India, after getting hit on the head in the first warm-up game against India A.
However, a piece of positive news came from Australia Cricket Team doctor Pip Inge which stated that Cameron Green, who was hit on the face by a Jasprit Bumrah shot on Friday, has recovered in time and will rejoin the team.
"Cameron has shown clinical improvement overnight and is symptomatically better than yesterday. He will remain with the Australia A squad where we will continue to monitor him,” Inge said.
India will start their four-match Test series with Australia - 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy - on Thursday, December 17, with a day-night Test match at the Adelaide Oval.
