Indian middle-order batsman Ambati Rayudu announced his International retirement from all forms of cricket earlier on Wednesday, July 3. The move came a couple of days after the 33-year-old was snubbed for the second time by the Indian selectors for the World Cup squad, with Mayank Agarwal being picked over the Hyderabad native to replace an injured Vijay Shankar.
Earlier in April, Rayudu was ignored with Vijay Shankar being chosen ahead of him for his all-round abilities for the World Cup squad. The Indian camp suffered a few injury setbacks during the course of the past month with Shikhar Dhawan and Shankar being ruled out owing to injury, but Rayudu was still overlooked. The middle-order batsman had announced his retirement from domestic cricket last year to focus more on his International prospects in the white ball game, but now has taken retirement from the international stage as well due to successive snubs.
In 55 ODIs, Rayudu scored 1694 runs with three centuries and 10 half-centuries at an average of 47.05. In the six T20Is he played, the middle-order batsman scored 42 runs. Rayudu never got a chance to represent India in Test cricket.
