The Ranji Trophy 2024-25 began on October 11 and will run till March 2025 in India.

Organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Ranji Trophy 2024-25  will see as many as 38 teams compete in a total of 138 matches in the country’s premier first-class cricket tournament.

These participating teams have been split into two categories - Elite and Plate. The Elite category has 32 teams divided into four groups of eight teams each. On the other hand, there are six teams in the Plate category.

As per the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 schedule, each team in the Elite category will play the other seven teams in their group once. The top two teams from each elite group will advance to the quarter-finals.

Elite Group A has Baroda, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Mumbai, Odisha, Services and Tripura.

The likes of Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Hyderabad, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Vidarbha are clubbed in Elite Group B.

Bengal, Bihar, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh are placed in Elite Group C.

Elite Group D has Assam, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Jharkhand, Railways, Saurashtra and Tamil Nadu.

Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim are in the Plate category.

The Plate division will also see each team play the other five sides once. The top four teams out of six will advance to the Plate group knockouts.

According to the Ranji Trophy format, the two finalists from the Plate group will be promoted to the Elite group for the next season, 2025-26. The two bottom-placed teams from the elite groups - factoring in both points and the quotient will be relegated to the Plate group.

Mumbai are the defending champions of the Ranji Trophy after defeating Vidarbha by 169 runs in the 2023-24 final at the Wankhede Stadium.

With the win, Mumbai bagged their record-extending 42nd Ranji Trophy title. Karnataka are the second most successful team in the annual first-class cricket domestic competition with eight titles. 

Ranji Trophy 2024-25 points system

As per the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 points system, each team will be awarded six points for a win in the league stages of both divisions in Ranji Trophy. 

Additionally, a team will get a bonus point if they win the game by an innings or 10 wickets.

In case of a drawn match, three points will be awarded to the team with first innings lead while the opposition team gets a solitary point.

The teams will be awarded three points each in case of a tie after they played two innings each.
