The Perth Stadium in Western Australia is the newest addition to Australia’s list of iconic cricket stadiums.

The stadium made its international debut on January 28, 2018, when it played host to an ODI contest between arch-rivals Australia and England with the visitors registering a narrow 12-run win.

From then on, the Perth Stadium has hosted a total of 14 international matches including four Tests, eight T20Is and two ODIs.

The Perth Stadium made its Test debut with an India-Australia match in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in December 2018 with Australia winning the game by 146 runs. Australia has won all four Test matches that have been played at the venue since its inception.

However, the hosts are yet to taste victory in the ODI format having lost both its matches at the venue to England and South Africa.

Out of the eight T20Is that the Perth Stadium has hosted, five were held as part of the T20 World Cup 2022. Australia has won two matches and lost two in the four T20Is they have played at the venue.

With that in mind, let’s have a look at Perth Stadium ODI records and stats.

Perth Stadium ODI records and stats

Highest Total

England’s 259 in the fifth and final ODI in a five-match series against Australia in January 2018 is the highest total recorded at the Perth Stadium. Incidentally, this was also the first ODI international match to be played at the venue.

Joe Root top-scored for the visitors with a patient half-century (62 off 68 balls), a knock that included two fours. Batting first, openers Jason Roy (49) and Jonny Bairstow (44) along with Alex Hales (35) also chipped in to help England to a competitive total of 259 from 47.4 overs.

In the end, the total proved just right as the visitors won the match by a narrow margin of 12 runs.

Lowest Total

Australia had the ignominy of recording the lowest total in an ODI at the Perth Stadium when they were all-out for 152 against South Africa in the first ODI of a three-match series in November 2018.

South Africa’s Andile Phehlukwayo was the pick among the bowlers with a spell of 3/33 while the pace duo of Dale Steyn and Lungi Ngidi along with spinner Imran Tahir picked up two wickets each.

The Proteas made light work of the chase and romped home by six wickets with more than 20 overs to spare.

Most runs

Australia’s Marcus Stoinis is the top run-getter in ODIs at the Perth Stadium with a tally of 101 runs from two matches at an average of 50.50 and a strike rate of 89.38. He also has a fifty to his name at this venue.

The Australian all-rounder scored 87 off 99 balls, his highest score at this venue, against England in the first-ever ODI played at this venue in January 2018. But Australia lost the contest, the last of a five-match ODI series, to England by 12 runs.

Most wickets

England’s Tom Curran and Australia’s Andrew Tye share the honours for most wickets at the Perth Stadium in ODIs. Though both the players played only a single match at the venue they picked up five wickets each to top the bowling charts.

Curran bowled an excellent spell of 5/35 against Australia in January 2018 to restrict the home side to 247 in their chase of 260 and gave England a 12-run win. He averaged just seven runs per wicket and at an economy rate of 3.75.

Meanwhile, Andrew Tye saw his effort of 5/46 go in vain for Australia in the same match. He picked up a wicket every 11.60 balls in his spell and also at an economy of 4.75 to dismiss England for 259 in their first innings, but in the end, Australia fell short during the chase.

Highest individual score

Marcus Stoinis’ knock of 87 off 99 balls against England in the final ODI of a five-match series is the highest individual score recorded in an ODI at the Perth Stadium.

In pursuit of 260, the all-rounder’s half-century kept the Aussies in contention till the end of the 34th over before he got dismissed. Stoinis hit six fours and four sixes during his stay at the crease as Australia could manage only 247 in response and lost the contest by 12 runs.

Joe Root (62) also scored a half-century for England in the same game, which is the second-highest score by a batter in an ODI at this venue

Best bowling figures in a match

Tom Curran’s 5/35 in the Australia-England tie in January 2018 is the best bowling figures recorded by a player in an ODI at the Perth Stadium. Curran’s efforts powered England to a 12-run win over the Aussies.

Curran’s victims included the crucial wickets of big hitters David Warner and Glenn Maxwell as Australia fell short in the chase.

Andrew Tye’s 5/46 in the same match are the next-best figures recorded by a bowler at the venue.

Highest Partnership

Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks’ 94-run opening association in the first ODI of the Australia-South Africa three-match series in November 2018 is the highest partnership recorded in ODIs played at the Perth Stadium.

The duo’s partnership provided a solid foundation in Proetas’ chase of 153 as the team cruised to a six-wicket win with more than 20 overs to spare. De Kock smashed seven fours in his 40-ball 47 while Hendricks’ patient 44 off 74 balls included four boundaries.
