West Indies Women return to international cricket after six months as they host New Zealand Women in a limited-overs bilateral series for the first time since 2014, which includes three ODIs followed by five T20Is. The tour is scheduled to commence on September 16, 2022. All the matches of this series will be played at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua, West Indies.

This will be West Indies' first series in any format since their defeat to eventual champions Australia in the semi-final of the ODI World Cup in March earlier this year. On the other hand, New Zealand come into this series on the back of a third-place finish at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Talking about the squads, West Indies announced a 17-member squad earlier this week. Performances in the inaugural Women’s 6ixty and CPL have had a bearing on the selection of players.

It will be Hayley Matthews’ first assignment after being appointed as the captain of the side. Sheneta Grimmond and Natasha McLean mark their return to the national setup which also features an uncapped 19-year-old left-arm pacer Jannillea Glasgow.

According to a CWI statement, a few senior players are missing from the squad for various reasons. Anisa Mohammed recently took a six-month break from cricket whereas Deandra Dottin announced retirement during the Commonwealth Games last month. Hence, a blend of experienced and developing players should provide a balance in the squad.

As far as the New Zealand Women’s squad is concerned, the majority of the team that featured in the Commonwealth Games 2022 is retained. However, Jess Kerr returns to the side after being ruled out of the showpiece event due to injury. Lauren Down too makes a comeback and so does 21-year-old pacer Molly Penfold after making her debut against England last year.

The trio of Rosemary Mair, Claudia Green, and wicket-keeper Jess McFadyen are dropped from the Commonwealth Games 2022 bronze medal-winning side.
