The New Zealand vs England 2023 cricket series is set to commence on February 16 at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. The England tour of New Zealand 2023 will consist of two Test matches - the first at the Bay Oval, followed by the second at the Basin Reserve in Wellington.
The two teams also played against each other in 2022 in Tests. The three-match series in England last year was the English cricket team’s introduction to Bazball. Ben Stokes and Co. blew past the Kiwis on all three occasions and cleanswept the series 3-0.
Despite a blip against South Africa in August 2022, England continued their swashbuckling style of play in cricket’s longest format, winning their last five Tests in a row. The victories not only sealed their series against Proteas at home, but also allowed them to cleansweep Pakistan at their home by a 3-0 margin.
New Zealand, on the other hand, have only played two matches in this format since the English tour. The Tim Southee-led side drew both games against Pakistan in Karachi.
Overall, England have been dominant in the head-to-head records in Test cricket against New Zealand. The Three Lions have won 51, with a 46.36% win ratio, compared to the Kiwis’ 12 victories, in this fixture. Meanwhile, 47 matches between the two teams have ended in draws.
In the New Zealand vs England 2023 series, pacer Kyle Jamieson, who has 72 wickets in just 16 Tests, will miss both clashes due to the recurrence of his stress fracture. Matt Henry, too, will be unavailable for the first match as he awaits the birth of his first child.
Legendary pacer Stuart Broad makes his comeback to the English squad for this Test series, while Matthew Potts and Dan Lawrence also make a return. The 18-year-old sensation Rehan Ahmed has not been picked to manage his winter workload. On the other hand, Liam Livingstone also misses the New Zealand tour due to a knee injury he suffered in Karachi.
