The Nepal Premier League 2024 auction was held in Kathmandu on Sunday, October 6.

Organised by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), as many as 142 players were shortlisted in the inaugural Nepal Premier League auction which included a total of 27 players in Category A, 38 players were in Category B while Category C featured a total of 77 players, the largest representation in any category.

Nepal’s star wicketkeeper-batter Anil Sah attracted the most bids at the Nepal Premier League 2024 auction as all the eight teams were involved in an intense bidding war to acquire his services. The 25-year-old was later sold to Janakpur Bolts for the maximum limit of NRs 1.5 million.

Apart from Anil Sah, Lokesh Bam (Biratnagar Kings), Pratish GC (Biratnagar Kings), Lalit Rajbanshi (Janakpur Bolts), Gulshan Kumar Jha (Karnali Yaks), Shahab Alam (Kathmandu Gurkhas), Bhim Sharki (Kathmandu Gurkhas), Surya Tamang (Lumbini Lions), Bibek Yadav (Lumbini Lions), Sundeep Jora (Lumbini Lions), Sagar Dhakal (Pokhara Avengers), Akash Chand (Pokhara Avengers) and Md Aarif Sheikh (Sudurpaschim Royals) were the other cricketers that were sold at the maximum limit of NRs 1.5 million at the Nepal Premier League 2024 auction.

As per the Nepal Premier League 2024 auction rules, each franchise was eligible to  sign a maximum of 10 players from the auction. However, each team could sign three players from the A category, four players from the B category and three players from the C category.

Additionally, each franchise had an auction purse of NRs 90 lakhs. They needed to spend within the limit or they would be penalised.

The bidding for A category players began at a minimum of 10 lakhs, with a maximum cap of 15 lakhs. For B category players, the bidding range was between 5 lakhs and 10 lakhs, while C category players had a starting bid of 2 lakhs, going up to a maximum of 5 lakhs.

If bids reached the maximum limit at the first-ever Nepal Premier League auction, a lucky draw was held to determine the final outcome.

Every team will feature a 16-man squad at the inaugural Nepal Premier League. One marquee player was already assigned to every team, while 10 players were selected through the auction. Additionally, four foreign players would be signed, and one iconic (local) player will complete the roster.

Each NPL franchise will select one iconic player from the local talent hunt, who may or may not be a registered player. While teams can select multiple players from this pool, only one can be included in the official squad.

At the NPL 2024, each franchise can also sign four foreign players in the squad of which one must be an associate player. The signing of foreign players will be conducted through a draft. They will be signed based on the franchise’s interest and budget.

The Nepal Premier League 2024 will start on November 30 and run till December 21 in Kathmandu, Nepal.

All matches in the Nepal Premier League 2024 will be played at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Nepal.
