Chennai captain MS Dhoni, following his side’s six-wicket win over Hyderabad on Tuesday, confessed that although there’s not something to extremely worry about, he needs to be careful with his back issues.

The former India captain has been facing problems with his back for a long time and despite having some stiffness, he mentioned that it is holding up pretty well.

"The back is holding up, it’s not getting worse, with the World Cup coming up, can’t afford that, because that’s too important,” Dhoni said at the post-match press conference

The 37-year-old, who will probably play his last World Cup this year, has been in exceptional form this season but was forced to miss the first Indian T20 League game of his career due to a certain back problem this year.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already stressed that players need to avoid excessive workload given that the World Cup is approaching. India’s 15-man squad for the grand tournament – although preliminary – is all but finalized and the Men In Blue cannot afford to lose any of their player owing to an injury.

Meanwhile, following two back to back defeats, team Chennai cruised back to winning ways on Tuesday with an impressive six-wicket win over team Hyderabad. With the victory, Dhoni’s yellow brigade not just maintained their 100%-win record at home this season but are also well on the cusp of reaching the 10th consecutive playoffs (barring the two-year ban).

And when quipped over the mantra of the team’s success since the inception, Dhoni had a cheeky response up his sleeve.

"If I tell everyone what it is, then they (CSK) won’t buy me at the auctions. It’s a trade secret. The crowd support and franchise’s support are key of course,” the skipper said during the post-match presentation.

"Huge credit has to also go to the support staff who play a huge role in keeping the team atmosphere good for the team and other individuals. Other than this, I can’t reveal anything till I retire,” he added.
