T20 cricket is a form of the game where boundaries are very precious. It requires batters to go all-out during all phases of the game.
This has resulted in batters shifting their priorities from scoring big to scoring fast in the shortest form of the game. The numbers also reflect a similar shift as strike rates get more importance over batting averages in the stats card.
Batters frequently come up with entertaining cameos that help the team’s cause in putting big totals on the board. They either use sheer power-hitting ability or bring out their creative side in manufacturing out-of-the-box strokes to clear boundaries.
In essence, T20 is a format that maximises the boundary-hitting capability of a batter. So all the key strategies, including practice sessions and strength training, are designed to improve their big-hitting technique.
With games moving to unimaginable speeds and franchises in global T20 Leagues preferring big hitters to run accumulators, the international scene has also taken a leaf out of these leagues.
The international teams have also backed personnel who can go all-out from ball one and play freely without worrying about losing their wicket.
The recent editions of the T20 World Cup are evidence of the changes that sides have made to adjust to the new demands of T20Is.
Here we glance through the list of batters with the most sixes for India in T20Is.

Rohit Sharma | 205 sixes
Rohit Sharma heads the list for most sixes hit by an Indian batter in T20Is with 205 sixes from 151 visits to the crease. Incidentally, Rohit also leads the overall chart for most sixes in T20Is among international batters.
Rohit was instrumental in changing India’s batting approach in T20Is with his all-guns blazing approach at the top of the batting order. His strategy paid rich dividends as India ended their 11-year ICC title drought with a victorious run in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Rohit was also India’s top-scorer and top six-hitter in the 2024 T20 World Cup campaign with 257 runs and 15 sixes. With 4,231 runs and five centuries in T20Is, Rohit is the highest run-getter and has the joint-highest tally of centuries in the shorter format.
Suryakumar Yadav | 139 sixes
The swashbuckling Suryakumar Yadav is second on the list with 139 sixes from just 69 innings, averaging more than two sixes per innings. Suryakumar is now known as the Indian 360-degree batter thanks to his ability to score runs all over the park by manipulating the field.
Suryakumar has this uncanny ability to tap areas behind the wicket for scoring maximums and always tends to play with the field settings, making it difficult for any opposition captain or bowler to set the fields or bowl to him.
He has four hundreds to his name in T20Is and has an astonishing average of 42.43 as well as a strike rate of 169.02 in the T20 format.
Virat Kohli | 124 sixes
Virat Kohli is third on the list for most sixes by an Indian batter with 124 sixes from 117 innings. He was the most consistent player in the shortest format for India, boasting an average of 48.69 - the highest for any Indian player with a tally of more than 1,000 runs in T20Is.
Kohli amassed 4,188 runs in T20Is at a strike rate of 137.04 with 39 scores of 50 or above out of his 117 visits to the crease.
He was also part of the Indian team that won the T20 World Cup in Barbados in June 2024 and scored a crucial half-century in the final against South Africa.
