The ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 started on June 2 (as per IST) and will run till June 29 in the West Indies and the United States. 

As many as 20 teams will compete in a total of 55 matches across four weeks in the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup.

The world’s leading T20 batters including the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Phil Salt, Mohammad Rizwan, Babar Azam, Aiden Markram, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler, Brandon King and Reeza Hendricks are featuring in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

Meanwhile, Canada’s Navneet Dhaliwal slammed the first fifty of T20 World Cup 2024. The veteran Indian-born Canadian cricketer scored 61 off 44 balls against co-hosts United States in the opening match of the ongoing marquee ICC tournament at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.

Opening the batting, Navneet Dhaliwal smashed six fours and three sixes to help Canada post 194/5 in their 20 overs. 

In reply, the United States rode on Aaron Jones’ unbeaten 40-ball 94 and Andries Gous’ 65 off 46 balls to chase down the target in just 17.4 overs to register a comprehensive seven-wicket win in Dallas.

Former Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli holds the record for the most runs in T20 World Cup history.

Having already represented India in six editions of the T20 World Cup between 2012 and 2024, Kohli has accumulated 1,146 runs in 30 matches. He has 14 fifties to his name in the T20 World Cups.

Kohli is also the record holder for the most runs in a single edition of the T20 World Cup. In the 2014 edition of the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh, the swashbuckling right-handed batter scored 319 runs in six matches at an average of 106.33 and a strike rate of 129.14. He registered four half-centuries in the marquee event, including fifties against South Africa and Sri Lanka in the semi-final and final respectively.

Former Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene features second on the list with 1,016 runs in 31 games at an average of 39.07 and a strike rate of 134.74. He registered one century and six fifties in the marquee T20 tournament’s history. 

Apart from Kohli, the likes of Pakistan’s Babar Azam, England’s Jos Buttler, New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra and West Indies’ Brandon King will be in contention to be leading run-scorers in the ongoing T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the United States.
