In what will be regarded as one of the comical innings in the history of cricket, the Mali women’s team were bowled out for just six runs in their Kwibuka Women's T20 tournament against Rawanda on Tuesday.
The Malian total is officially the lowest total recorded by a team in T20Is. The Rawanda side chased down the target in just four balls, thus recording the biggest victory margin in terms of balls remaining – 116, reports a news website.
Before this, a 14-run innings that the Chinese women’s team managed against the UAE in January this year during the Women's T20 Smash in Bangkok was the lowest total ever recorded. That was in reply to 203/3 posted by the Emiratis. That victory of 189 runs, however, is still the biggest margin in terms of runs.
The Malian innings lasted for barely nine over, with just one of the six runs being scored of bat. For Rwanda, 19-year-old medium-pacer Josiane Nyirankundineza picked up three wickets without conceding a run, while medium-pacer Marie Diane Bimenyimana and leg spinner Margueritte Vumiliya picked up two wickets apiece.
Bimenyimana, meanwhile, conceded two runs – a single and a wide -- in her three overs. Three of the Mali batsmen were out bowled, while three were caught in the outfield, and there were two lbws and two run outs.
