Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli has been fined Rs 500 by his local municipality in Gurgaon for wastage of drinking water at his house.
A resident of DLF Phase 1, Kohli's domestic help was found to be cleaning his car "using running water to clean the car" and was promptly punished by the Gurgaon Municipal Corporation.
Currently in England for the Cricket World Cup, Kohli's case isn't a one-off as citizens of the city are found by the civic body misusing drinking water for gardening purposes too.
"We issue advisories from time to time, requesting people to judiciously use drinking water," SS Rohilla, a Public Relations Officer with the Gurgaon Municipal Corporation told PTI referring to Kohli's issue. "Whether supply water or groundwater, if spent like this gets wasted. In this case, the worker could have used a bucket instead of running water."
