The Ireland women's national cricket team is currently languishing at the bottom of the ICC Women's Championship 2022-25 standings with just two points on board. They are yet to register a victory in the ongoing ICC Women's Championship, having succumbed to 10 defeats while two ODIs have ended in no result.
Currently ranked 11th in the ICC women’s ODI team rankings, Ireland Women will head into the ODI series high on confidence after they registered their first-ever win over Sri Lanka Women in the recently-concluded T20I series.
The Laura Delany-led hosts rode on Gaby Lewis’ match-winning 119 off just 75 balls to beat the newly-crowned Asia Cup champions by seven runs in the second and final T20I in Dublin.
With the win, the two-match T20I series ended 1-1 after Sri Lanka Women earlier registered a seven-wicket win in the first game.
On the other hand, the Sri Lanka women's national cricket team will receive a massive boost with the return of their star captain Chamari Athapaththu, who missed the T20I series due to her commitments with Team Oval in the 100-ball league held in England and Wales.
Ranked fifth in the ICC women’s ODI team rankings, Sri Lanka Women are currently placed fifth in the ICC Women's Championship 2022-25 standings.
With just eight wins in 21 ODIs, Sri Lanka Women have accumulated 20 points and will need to clinch the upcoming ODI series in Ireland.
