After losing the ODI as well as the T20I series, and a one-off Test against Bangladesh in Bangladesh, the Ireland cricket team will now welcome the Bangla Tigers for a three-match ODI in their own backyard. The three-match series will start on May 9 and end on May 14.
This series between the Irish and Bangladesh was slated to include four T20Is along with the three ODIs in 2020. However, the COVID-19 pandemic caused it to be postponed but the two sides will now face each other in three 50-over matches in Ireland.
These three ODIs between the two countries are a part of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League.
Should Ireland fail to qualify for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup through the Super League, they will have to compete in the Qualifiers in Zimbabwe between June and July for another shot at making the cut for the 50-over World Cup later this year.
Ireland is all set to be led by skipper Andrew Balbirnie, while batter Tamim Iqbal will be Bangladesh’s skipper for these ODIs.
The likes of in-form players such as Lorcan Tucker, Paul Stirling, and Harry Tector are also a part of the Irish squad, while Bangladesh boasts a pretty strong team as well with players like Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das, and Shakib Al Hasan, all part of their squad.
As far as the head-to-head between these sides is concerned, Bangladesh has dominated the Irish in ODIs. Out of the 13 50-over matches between these sides, Bangladesh has won nine of them while Ireland has been victorious twice.
There have also been two no results between these teams and it’s also worth noting that the recent three-match ODI series in Bangladesh involving these sides ended in a 2-0 win for the hosts.
All three matches in this series will be held at the County Cricket Ground in Chelmsford, Essex, England. Before the series gets underway, Bangladesh will also play a practice match against Ireland Wolves at the same venue on Friday, May 5.
