India’s Jemimah Rodrigues smashed 112 off just 58 balls to record the fastest T20 century in the history of women’s cricket. She was playing for Yorkshire Diamonds, who were chasing a target of 185 set by the Southern Vipers, in England’s Women’s Super League.
The 18-year old took just 51 balls to cross the 100-run mark, surpassing the previous record of a 55-ball ton by South Africa’s Lizelle Lee. Jemimah’s innings included 17 fours and one six, as she ably guided her team to a win by four wickets.
Rodrigues and Hollie Armitage stood for a 90-run partnership and took their team to a nail-biting final over, with Yorkshire requiring 10 runs to win. Rodrigues scored nine of those, whereas Armitage’s single off the last ball sealed the win.
The Yorkshire side, however, are already out of the tournament on the basis of points, as they are currently fourth in the points table.
