The India vs Bangladesh Test 2024 series will start at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday, September 19.

As per the India vs Bangladesh Test 2024 schedule, the two teams will square off in a two-match series which is part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2023-25. 

After the opening Test in Chennai, the second game will be played at Green Park in Kanpur starting on September 27.

Ranked second in the ICC men’s Test team rankings, the Indian cricket team is currently placed at the top of the WTC 2023-25 standings with a PCT of 68.52. They have registered six wins, one draw and suffered two losses in the ongoing WTC.

India have named a full-strength 16-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series to be led by captain Rohit Sharma.

Star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has made a comeback to India’s Test squad for the first time since his car accident in December 2022.

India’s talisman Virat Kohli and middle-order batter KL Rahul have also returned to the star-studded Test squad.

Meanwhile, left-arm fast bowler Yash Dayal has received his maiden Test call-up against Bangladesh.

India’s pace bowling attack will be spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep.

Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav are the spin bowling options in the squad.

The likes of Sarfaraz Khan and young wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel have retained their place in the squad.

India last featured in a five-match Test series against England which Rohit Sharma’s men won 4-1 at home in March.

On the other hand, the Bangladesh national cricket team will head into the Test series brimming with confidence after they registered a historic 2-0 Test series win in Pakistan.

With three wins and as many losses, Bangladesh are currently placed fourth in the WTC standings with a PCT of 45.83.

The world’s ninth ranked Test side will once again be led by Najmul Hossain Shanto

Bangladesh have included wicketkeeper-batter Jaker Ali in their 16-man squad. Top-order batter Mahmudul Hasan Joy has also been added after recovering from his injury.

However, the visitors will miss the services of their 23-year-old pacer Shoriful Islam due to injury.

India vs Bangladesh head-to-head in Test cricket

The India vs Bangladesh head-to-head favours the former in Test cricket. India have won 11 of the 13 Tests that they have played against each other so far. The other two matches have ended in draws.

The last time these two sides met, India secured a 2-0 win in a two-match Test series in Bangladesh in December 2022.
