The ICC U-19 World Cup 2024 schedule was announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday, September 22.
As many as 16 teams will compete in the 15th edition of the ICC U-19 World Cup from January 13 to February 4 in Sri Lanka. The island nation will host the marquee cricket tournament for the third time having staged it previously in 2000 and 2006.
Hosts Sri Lanka will take on Zimbabwe in the opening match of the tournament at the R. Premadasa Stadium.
Five-time winners and defending champions India will face Bangladesh in their ICC U-19 World Cup 2024 opener on January 14.
The ICC U-19 World Cup 2024 will be held in a revised format.
The 16 participating teams have been divided into four groups of four teams each. In the new format, the top three teams from each group will now advance to the Super Six stage.
In this new format, two groups of six teams will be created, with the top three teams from Groups A and D forming one group, and the top three teams from Groups B and C forming the other.
Furthermore, the fourth-placed teams in each group will compete in one more match against another fourth-placed team before ending their campaign.
The P. Sara Oval, Colombo Cricket Club, Nondescripts Cricket Club, Singhalese Sports Club and the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium are the five venues that will host ICC U-19 World Cup 2024 matches.
India are the most decorated team in ICC U-19 World Cup history with five titles. Australia feature second with three trophies, while Pakistan have won it twice.
