The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 is set to be played from October 16 to November 13 in Australia.
The eighth edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will commence with a six-day First Round qualifier played between eight teams to determine the final four spots of Super 12.
While Namibia, Sri Lanka, Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates are placed in Group A of the First Round, Scotland, West Indies, Ireland and Zimbabwe are included in Group B.
Sri Lanka will square off against Namibia in the opening fixture of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 First Round at Kardinia Park in South Geelong, Australia on October 16.
Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Pakistan, New Zealand and South Africa have already qualified for the Super 12 stage of the upcoming ICC tournament. The eight teams have sealed their spots based on their performance in their previous edition of the tournament in UAE in 2021 and their rankings as of November 15, 2021.
Reigning champions and hosts Australia became the first team to announce their squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.
Singapore-born cricketer Tim David is the only change to Australia’s 2021 T20 World Cup title-winning squad. The swashbuckling all-rounder has replaced spinner Mitchell Swepson in the 15-man contingent.
Last edition’s semi-finalists England, led by captain Jos Buttler, have also announced their 15-member squad for the marquee ICC T20 tournament. England will, however, miss the services of wicket-keeper Jonny Bairstow, who has been ruled out of the tournament after suffering a "freak" injury while playing golf.
