Live streaming and telecast of the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes 2024 will be available in India.
Organised by Cricket Hong Kong, the six-a-side tournament returns after a gap of seven years and will be played only for the second time in 12 years.
The 20th edition of the tournament will have 12 teams, divided into four groups, competing for the title in a total of 29 matches with the final scheduled to happen at 1:55 PM IST on November 3.
Pool A will have South Africa, New Zealand and Hong Kong while Australia, England and Nepal are in Pool B. Pool C features arch-rivals India, Pakistan and UAE with Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Oman in Pool D rounding off the 12-team list.
Each team will play one match against the other two sides in the group in a single round-robin format during the league phase. The top two sides from each group after the league phase will proceed to play the quarter-finals starting on November 2.
The third-placed teams from all four groups will play in the Bowl competition. The Bowl competition will also feature a single-match league format among the four teams with the first and second-placed teams after the league playing the Bowl final.
The sides winning the quarter-finals will advance to the semi-finals and the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes 2024 Cup final will be played between the sides that come on top in the last-four stage.
The sides losing their respective last-eight matches will play in the Plate semi-finals with the victorious sides meeting in the Plate final.
Each match will be six overs a side with all players except the keeper required to bowl atleast one over. One player can bowl two overs. A batter has to retire if he makes 50 or more and can take further part only if all the other five batters have been dismissed.
If five batters are dismissed before the end of five overs then the sixth batter can play the remaining balls with the last dismissed batter acting as a permanent non-striker for running between the wickets.
South Africa are the defending champions having won the last two editions of the tournament in 2017 and 2012. The Proteas beat Pakistan on both occasions and won the 2017 edition by two wickets to retain the title.
South Africa, England and Pakistan are the most successful teams in the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes tournament having won the title five teams each. Sri Lanka, India, Australia and West Indies have one title apiece.
India, who won the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes tournament in 2005, will have Robin Uthappa, Kedhar Jadhav, Stuart Binny, Manoj Tiwary, Shreevats Goswami, Bharat Chipli and Shahbaz Nadeem in their ranks for the 2024 edition.
