India’s wicket keeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has received a show-cause notice from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for attending a promotional event of the Port of Spain franchise of the Caribbean T20 League.
The franchise is owned by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan who is also the co-owner of team Kolkata in the Indian T20 League. Karthik is captain of the Kolkata side and was seen in the dressing room of the Caribbean team with Brendon McCullum before their match against Saint Kitts and Nevis team.
“Yes, Dinesh Karthik has been issued a show-cause notice by the BCCI. We have received photographs where Karthik is seen in the dressing room of Port of Spain team. BCCI CEO Rahul Johri has issued a show-cause notice asking him to explain why his central contract shouldn’t be annulled,” a senior BCCI told PTI.
The photograph shows 34-year-old Karthik wearing a jersey of the franchise and relaxing in the dressing room alongside Brendon McCullum.

“As a centrally contracted cricketer, Dinesh Karthik had no business being seen in a franchise league which is not the Indian T20 League. His central contract prevents him from being associated with any private league as it has been the BCCI clause for all first-class cricketers,” said the senior official.
Karthik is expected to submit his apology to the board as he aims to represent Tamil Nadu in the National One Day Championship for the Vijay Hazare Trophy which starts from 24th September this month.
