The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Monday, named the likes of Navdeep Saini, Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed and Deepak Chahar as India’s net bowlers for the World Cup, to be held in England and Wales.
"The players will assist the Indian team in its World Cup preparation,” read an official statement from the BCCI just some hours after the 15-man squad was announced.
As of now, the aforementioned names are playing their trade in the on-going Indian T-20 League for their respective franchises. Playing in his maiden Indian T-20 League, Saini has impressed one and all with his impressive showing, picking four wickets in seven games with an economy of 7.92.
Chahar, on the other hand, has been working wonders under the tutelage of MS Dhoni, scalping 10 wickets in eight games with an economy of 6.64. Also, he has bowled most number of dot balls (94) this season.
Ahmed and Khan, on their part, are good in generating pace but haven’t seen enough game time with Hyderabad and Delhi respectively. Both have played just one fixture and while the latter has failed with the ball, the former has three wickets in his kitty.
India’s 15-man squad for the World Cup in England was announced on Monday by the BCCI, with 33-year-old Dinesh Karthik getting a spot ahead of Rishabh Pant. All-rounder Vijay Shankar also made it to the list.
The Men in Blue will kick off their campaign against South Africa on June 5 at The Rose Bowl stadium.
