The Bangladesh vs South Africa Test 2024 series will start on Monday, October 21.
The first of the two-match Test series will be played at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka starting at 9:00 AM IST on Monday. Live streaming of the Bangladesh vs South Africa Test 2024 series will be available in India.
The second Test will start at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on October 29.
Aiden Markram will lead the 16-member South Africa team in the first Test as regular captain Temba Bavuma will miss the series opener due to a muscle strain in his left triceps.
Earlier, South African pacer Nandre Burger was also ruled out of the Bangladesh Test series with an injury. As a result, Dewald Brevis and Lungi Ngidi have been called in as cover.
Markram, Tristan Stubbs and Tony de Zorzi will lead the Proteas’ batting while Keshav Maharaj will headline a three-pronged spin attack in conditions expected to be favourable for the tweakers.
Off-spinner Dane Piedt and left-arm spinner Senuran Muthusamy are the other spinners in the squad alongside Maharaj.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh dropped pacer Khaled Ahmed in their only change from the Test squad that toured India for a two-match series last month. Najmul Hossain Shanto will continue to helm the Bangladesh Test team in the home series against the Proteas.
However, Shakib Al Hasan, who had announced that the first match against South Africa at Dhaka would be his farewell Test, will be unavailable with Hasan Murad being named as his replacement.
South Africa arrive in Bangladesh after their successful 1-0 win over the West Indies in the two-Test series in the Caribbean in August. But Bangladesh had to endure a 2-0 clean sweep at the hands of India in their last outing in the longest format of the game.
The Proteas are currently in fifth place in the World Test Championship 2023-25 points table with a percentage score of 38.89 while Bangladesh are seventh with 34.38.
