The Indian women’s cricket team will look to avoid a series defeat as they lock horns with Australia women in the third and final T20I at the Carrara Oval in Queensland on Sunday, October 10.
After the opening T20I was abandoned due to rain, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led India suffered a four-wicket loss to Australia in a nail-biting encounter on Saturday.
Put into bat first, India were reeling at 78/8 in the 16th over before Pooja Vastrakar’s 26-ball 37 powered the visitors to a competitive total of 118/9. Captain Harmanpreet contributed with a small cameo of 28 runs off 20 balls.
Australia, on their part, also lost wickets at regular intervals and were left stuttering at 94/6 with 26 runs still required off 20 balls. However, the 25-run stand between Tahlia McGrath and Georgia Wareham for the seventh wicket - which included four boundaries in six deliveries - led Australia to victory and take an unassailable 9-5 lead in the multi-format series.
With this win, Meg Lanning’s Australia have secured the multi-format series, after clinching the ODI series 2-1, drawing the one-off Test and taking a 1-0 lead in the T20I series.
Meanwhile, India will hope to make a comeback in the series finale and end the tour Down Under on a high.
