The much-awaited Australia vs India Test 2024-25 cricket series will start in Perth on Friday, November 22.

Hosts Australia and India will lock horns in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25.

As per the Australia vs India Test 2024-25 schedule, the first match of the five-match series will be played at the Perth Stadium.

The two sides will later travel to Adelaide for the second Test scheduled to be played at the Adelaide Oval starting on December 6.

The third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be held at The Gabba which will begin on December 14 while the fourth Test will be played at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in the Boxing Day Test from December 26.

The five-match Australia vs India 2024-25 Test series will conclude at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in the first week of January.

Currently the top-ranked Test team, the Australia cricket team is also placed on top of the WTC 2023-25 standings with a points percentage of 62.50%. They are scheduled to play seven more Tests in the ongoing WTC cycle.

Ahead of the five-match Test series, Australia have announced their 13-man squad for the first Test to be led by captain Pat Cummins.

Nathan McSweeney and Josh Inglis have earned their maiden Test call-ups for the opening Test. The 25-year-old, Nathan McSweeney, is expected to open the innings alongside Usman Khawaja.

Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and skipper Cummins will lead the pace attack while Scott Boland is the other fast bowler in the squad.

Nathan Lyon is the only spin bowling option in the squad with the likes of Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head expected to roll their arms when required.

On the other hand, the Indian cricket team will miss the services of their captain Rohit Sharma for the Perth Test as he welcomed his second child over the weekend.

In the absence of Rohit, vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah is expected to lead the Indian side while Rohit could return for the Adelaide Test.

Additionally, the visitors suffered a huge blow as star batter Shubman Gill suffered a left thumb injury while taking a catch at the WACA.

Left-handed batter Devdutt Padikkal has been added to the squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy and could feature at number 3 for the Perth Test.

The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul will play a key role in the batting department for India.

Apart from Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana and all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy are some of the other pace bowling options in the squad. Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar are the spin specialists in the visitors’ squad.

Ranked second in the ICC men’s Test team rankings, India are currently placed second in the WTC 2023-25 standings.

Meanwhile, India will qualify for the WTC 2023-25 final without depending on any team if they beat Australia by a margin of 5-0 or 4-0, including a draw, in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. That will take India’s percentage point to 69.30 (for a 5-0 win) or 65.79 (for 4-0) and Australia will dip to 44.12 or 46.08 accordingly.
