The Afghanistan vs South Africa ODI 2024 series will start in Sharjah on Wednesday, September 18.
As per the Afghanistan vs South Africa ODI 2024 schedule, all three games will be played at the iconic Sharjah Cricket Ground on September 18, 20 and 22.
Afghanistan and South Africa will square off against each other for the first time in a bilateral 50-over series.
South Africa are currently third in the ICC men’s ODI team rankings while Afghanistan are placed ninth.
The Afghanistan national cricket team will be led by Hashmatullah Shahidi in the upcoming three-match ODI series in the United Arab Emirates. Rahmat Shah will be his deputy.
Afghanistan have received a massive boost with the return of their star leg-spinner Rashid Khan.
However, Afghanistan will miss the services of their top-order batter Ibrahim Zadran who has been ruled out of the series due to an ankle sprain in his left leg. Additionally, spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman is yet to recover from a right phalanx sprain.
Young top-order batters Abdul Malik and Darwish Rasooli have been included in Afghanistan’s ODI squad.
Afghanistan last featured in a three-match ODI series against Ireland in March. The Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side won the series 2-0.
On the other hand, the South Africa national cricket team will aim to bounce back after suffering a 0-3 T20I series defeat against West Indies in the Caribbean in August.
Temba Bavuma will lead the Proteas in the upcoming ODI series in Sharjah. All-rounders Amdile Simelane, Jason Smith and spinner Nqaba Peter have received their maiden ODI call-ups against Afghanistan.
Furthermore, star pacer Lungi Ngidi has recovered from his injury and been included in the ODI squad.
