The Afghanistan vs New Zealand one-off Test 2024 will start in Greater Noida on Monday, September 9.

As per the Afghanistan vs New Zealand Test 2024 schedule, the upcoming one-match Test series will be played at Afghanistan’s adopted home ground, Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground in Uttar Pradesh, India.

Interestingly, Afghanistan and New Zealand will lock horns for the first time in cricket’s longest format.

The upcoming Test will be Afghanistan’s 10th Test and their third in 2024, which is the most they have played in a calendar year.

Afghanistan last featured in a one-off Test against Ireland played at the Tolerance Oval in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Afghanistan lost the Test by six wickets in March.

Earlier, Afghanistan squared off against Sri Lanka in a one-off Test at the Singhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground in Colombo. The visitors suffered a 10-wicket defeat in that game.

Ahead of the series, the Afghanistan national cricket team has announced their 16-member squad to be led by captain Hashmatullah Shahidi.

Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmat Shah, and Azmatullah Omarzai are some of the other prominent names included in Afghanistan’s Test squad.

However, Afghanistan will miss the services of their star all-rounder Rashid Khan, who has been sidelined for a year after his back operation.

Afghanistan are currently ranked 12th in the ICC men’s Test team rankings.

On the other hand, the New Zealand national cricket team has also named their 15-man squad for their maiden Test against Afghanistan.

Star pacer Tim Southee will lead New Zealand while Tom Latham will be his deputy.

The Kiwis have included as many as five spin-bowling options in their squad keeping in mind the spin-friendly pitches in the sub-continent.

While Ajaz Patel is the team’s only specialist spinner, the likes of Mitchell Santner, Michael Bracewell, Rachin Ravindra and Glenn Phillips are the other spin bowling options in the squad.

Ranked fifth in the ICC men’s Test team rankings, New Zealand are currently placed third in the World Test Championship 2023-25 standings.

After the one-off Test against Afghanistan, New Zealand will travel to Sri Lanka for two World Test Championship matches starting on September 18.
