Following the immense success of the T20 format at the world stage, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is now introducing 100-ball League, scheduled to start on Wednesday, July 21, 2021.
After the Covid-19 pandemic delayed the start of the 100-ball tournament. 100-ball League will now run until August 21. It will feature eight teams, with each having a men’s and women’s squad, who will fight it out across 68 matches played over five weeks.
100-ball League will kick-off with the women's match between the Oval London and the Manchester, at The Oval.
The eight teams competing in the Hundred are Birmingham, Lord's London, Manchester, Leeds, Oval London, Southampton, Nottingham and Cardiff.
The women’s matches in 100-ball League are scheduled to be held on the same day as the men’s, but at different venues with the women playing the first fixture of the day.
What is the format of 100-ball League?
As the name suggests, matches in 100-ball League will have 100 balls per innings. The fielding side will change ends after 10 balls, meaning one over will comprise 10 balls. One bowler can bowl either five or 10 consecutive deliveries, which can be decided on-field. However, no bowler can bowl more than 20 balls in a game
Like the Indian T20 League, there will be a strategic timeout of two and a half minutes in 100-ball League, but the coach of the respective teams can walk out to the field to discuss strategy. Each match in 100-ball League will last two and a half hours.
There will be a 25-ball powerplay in 100-ball League for each team during which only two fielders will be allowed outside of the 30-yard circle.
