The Narendra Modi Stadium, previously known as the Sardar Patel Stadium or Motera Stadium, was established in 1983 and has hosted 23 One Day International games so far.
The first international ODI match at the Narendra Modi Stadium was played between India and Australia in 1984. The Kim Hughes-led Aussies beat Sunil Gavaskar’s Men in Blue by seven wickets.
The Narendra Modi stadium, which has undergone renovation twice, is now the world’s largest cricket stadium as it now has a seating capacity of 132,000.
Formerly known as the Sardar Patel Stadium, the venue has hosted matches from three editions of the Cricket World Cup (1987, 1996 and 2011) and the 2006 Champions Trophy.
There have been almost 30 ODIs played at this venue so far. A lot of high-profile games will be held at this venue in the 2023 ODI World Cup, including the tournament opener, the India and Pakistan clash as well as the final.

Highest team total: The highest team total in ODIs at Narendra Modi Stadium is 365/2 by South Africa against India in 2010. The visitors rode on Jacques Kallis and AB de Villiers’ unbeaten centuries to put on a mammoth score on the board. India, in reply, were bowled out for 275 as the Proteas pulled off a 90-run win.
Lowest team total: Zimbabwe’s score of 85 all out against West Indies is the lowest team total at Narendra Modi Stadium in an ODI match. During the 2006 Champions Trophy qualifying encounter, Chris Gayle took three wickets for just three runs as the Men in Maroon bundled out Zimbabwe within 30.1 overs.
Most runs: Rahul Dravid has scored the most ODI runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The right-handed batter amassed 342 runs in five innings at an average of 114. He scored two hundreds and a half-century on this ground with a best score of 109 not out against West Indies in 2002.
Highest individual score: New Zealand's Devon Conway holds the honour of the highest individual score in ODIs at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The Kiwi southpaw hit an unbeaten 152 off 121 balls in the opening match of the 2023 World Cup against England. His knock featured 19 fours and three sixes, helping New Zealand chase down a 283-run target with nine wickets to spare in 36.2 overs.
Most wickets: Former India cricket team all-rounder Kapil Dev has claimed the most wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The 1983 World Cup winner claimed 10 wickets in six innings at the venue at an average of 15.60 and an economy of 3.04.
Best bowling figures: Prasidh Krishna’s 4/12 in the second ODI of a three-match series against West Indies in 2022 is the best bowling figures at this venue in an ODI. The Indian pacer ripped through the West Indies batting line-up and helped secure a 44-run victory.
Highest partnership: New Zealand's Devon Conway and Ravindra Rachin hold the record for the highest partnership at this venue in ODI cricket. The Kiwi pair did so during the opening match of the 2023 World Cup. Tasked with chasing a target of 283 by England. Conway and Rachin made light work of the chase. After joining Conway in the middle with the score on 10, the duo put on an unbeaten 273-run stand for the second wicket as New Zealand chased down the target with nine wickets to spare in 36.2 overs. While Conway stayed unbeaten on 152 off 121 balls, Rachin was 123 not out from 96 balls.
