The Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur, also known as the ‘new VCA Stadium’ was inaugurated in 2008. It is the largest cricket stadium in India in terms of field area.
The ground has hosted seven Tests, nine ODIs, and 13 T20Is so far. The first international game here was a Test match between the India cricket team and Australia in November 2008. India won the Test by 172 runs.

Most runs
Virat Kohli holds the record for the most runs scored at the VCA stadium in Test cricket. The aggressive top-order batter scored 366 runs in five innings at an average of 73.20. Kohli smashed two hundreds at the ground. Virender Sehwag follows Kohli on the list for the most runs scored in Tests at Nagpur. Sehwag has made 357 runs in six innings at an average of 59.50, including one century and three fifties at this venue.
Most wickets
Ravichandran Ashwin has picked up 31 wickets in seven innings at this venue so far. Ashwin has also recorded three five-wicket hauls at the ground besides finishing with 10 wickets in a match once. He averages 15.22 in Tests at Nagpur.
Average first innings score
The average first innings score at the VCA stadium is 323 runs and it goes up to 361 in the second innings (out of four).
Highest individual score
South African legend Hashim Amla recorded the highest individual score at the venue in Tests when South Africa toured India in 2010.
Amla scored an unbeaten 253 runs in 473 balls against India in the first innings and his knock featured 22 fours. His double hundred helped the Proteas register a thumping win against India by an innings and six runs.
Best bowling figures
Australia’s Jason Krejza returned with figures of 8/215 against India in 2008. He has the best bowling figures in an innings at the VCA stadium but couldn’t help Australia avoid a defeat as India won the match by 172 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin holds the record for the best bowling figures in a match at the venue. Ashwin picked up 12 wickets in a Test against South Africa in 2015 as India registered a 124-run win.
Highest team total
Riding on Virat Kohli's double hundred and centuries from Murali Vijay (128), Cheteshwar Pujara (143), and Rohit Sharma (102), India posted a mammoth total of 610 for six (declared) against Sri Lanka in 2017 and it is the highest team total at this venue. Thanks to such a big score, India won the match by an innings and 239 runs.
Lowest team total
South Africa is the only team to get bowled out for less than 100 in Tests at the VCA stadium so far. The Proteas were bundled out for a mere 79 runs in the second innings against India in 2015, which is the lowest team total at this venue. India eventually won the game by 124 runs.
Highest partnership
The legendary South African duo of Jacques Kallis and Hashim Amla added 340 runs for the third wicket in the first innings of their first Test against India in 2010. This remains the only instance of a batting pair scoring 300 or more Test runs together at the venue. South Africa won the match by an innings and 6 runs.
