Trent Bridge is one of the oldest cricket stadiums located in West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, England.
Established in 1841, the Trent Bridge is built just across the River Trent from the city of Nottingham and was first opened by William Clarke, husband of the proprietress of the Trent Bridge Inn.
It is the home ground of the England national cricket team and the Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club.
In June 1899, Trent Bridge staged its first international cricket match, a Test played between arch-rivals England and Australia. The match later ended in a draw.

Highest total
The England cricket team holds the record for the highest total at Trent Bridge in Test cricket. During the first Test of Australia’s tour of England in June 1938, the Wally Hammond-led hosts posted a mammoth total of 658/8d after electing to bat first in Nottingham. Eddie Paynter slammed 216 not out, along with contributions from Charlie Barnett (126), Denis Compton (102) and (100) to help England register a record Test total at the venue. Australia were later bowled out for 411 in their first innings as England enforced follow-on. Australia later managed 427/6d as the Trent Bridge Test ended in a dull draw.
Lowest total
The Australia cricket team registered the lowest total at Trent Bridge in Test cricket. Put in to bat, Australia were bundled out for 60 in 18.3 overs by arch-rivals England in the first innings of the fourth Test in Nottingham. Mitchell Johnson top-scored for Australia with 13 while captain Michael Clarke (10) was the only other batter to reach double digits. Pacer Stuart Broad was the wrecker-in-chief for England with 8/15. England later posted 391/9d in their first innings before they bowled out Australia for 253 in the second innings to win the Test by an innings and 78 runs.
Most runs
Former England cricketer Mike Atherton has scored the most runs at this ground in cricket’s longest format. The right-handed opening batter accumulated 1,083 runs in 11 Test matches at an impressive average of 60.16. Mike Atherton also slammed five centuries and three fifties at this venue in Test cricket. Compatriot Denis Compton is second on the list with 955 runs in seven Test matches at an average of 95.50.
Most wickets
Legendary England fast bowler James Anderson picked up the most wickets at Trent Bridge in Test cricket. Between 2003 and 2022, the right-arm pacer bagged 73 wickets in 12 Test matches at an average of 19.23. He claimed two four-wicket hauls and seven fifers at this venue in Tests. James Anderson’s former teammate Stuart Broad features second on the list with 46 wickets in 11 Tests.
Highest individual score
England’s Denis Compton registered the highest individual score at Trent Bridge in Tests. Batting at number four, former England cricketer Denis Compton scored 278 against Pakistan in their first innings of the second Test in July 1954. His magnificent double century was laced with 34 fours and one six to help England post a huge total of 558/6d. Earlier, Pakistan were bowled out for 157 after opting to bat first. Led by Abdul Kardar, Pakistan could only manage 272 in their second innings as they lost the Test by an innings and 129 runs.
Best bowling figures in an innings
Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad recorded the best bowling figures in an innings of a Test at this venue in 2015. The right-arm pacer registered brilliant figures of 8/15 to help bundle out Australia for 60 in their first innings. Stuart Broad dismissed Chris Rogers, Steven Smith, Shaun Marsh, captain Michael Clarke, Adam Voges, Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon. England rode on Broad’s sensational spell to thrash Australia by an innings and 78 runs as the hosts took a 3-1 lead in the five-match Test series.
Best bowling figures in a match
England’s Alec Bedser holds the record for the best bowling figures in a Test match at Trent Bridge in Test cricket. The former right-arm pacer took 14 wickets during the first Test of Australia’s tour of England in June 1953. While Bedser took seven wickets for 55 runs in the first innings, he scalped seven more wickets for 44 runs in the second innings. Despite Alec Bedser’s incredible bowling performance, the Test ended in a draw.
Highest partnership
Former Australia cricketers Geoff Marsh and Mark Taylor recorded the highest partnership at this ground in Test cricket. Geoff Marsh and Mark Taylor forged a massive 329-run stand for the opening wicket in their first innings of the fifth Test against England in August 1989. Geoff Marsh hammered 138 while Mark Taylor slammed 219. Australia won the Test by an innings and 180 runs.
