The T20 Blast is a top-level domestic T20 cricket competition held in England and Wales.
Established by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the T20 Blast features English and Welsh first-class counties competing for the coveted title since 2003.
Surrey Lions won the inaugural edition of the T20 Blast after they thrashed Warwickshire Bears by nine wickets in the 2003 final in Nottingham.
The high-profile domestic T20 tournament has been known by various names due to sponsorship reasons. From 2003 to 2009, the tournament was named as the Twenty20 Cup, the Friends Provident t20 and Friends Life t20 from 2010 to 2013, and the Natwest t20 Blast from 2014 to 2017.
Since 2018, the competition is named the Vitality Blast as it has been sponsored by insurance company Vitality.
As per the current format, there are 18 teams that compete in the T20 tournament. They are divided into two groups of nine teams each.
North Group has Derbyshire, Durham, Lancashire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Yorkshire.
The likes of Essex, Glamorgan, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Kent, Middlesex, Somerset, Surrey and Sussex are placed in South Group.
Each county plays a total of 14 group stage matches, seven at home and seven away. The top four teams from each group advance to the quarter-finals. The knockouts also comprise semi-finals and the final.
Leicestershire Foxes and Hampshire Hawks have been the most successful teams in the T20 Blast history with three titles each.
Meanwhile, Gloucestershire are the defending champions of the T20 Blast after beating Somerset by eight wickets in the 2024 final at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground. Get T20 Blast winners list.
