Most wickets
Shakib Al Hasan (76) and Taijul Islam (69) are the only bowlers to have picked 50+ wickets on this ground. Shakib Al Hasan tops the wicket-taking charts, snaring 76 wickets in 21 Tests, which includes eight five-fers and one 10-wicket haul in a match.
Average 1st innings score
The average first innings score at this venue is 333 in 26 Test matches. However, the number drops down significantly to 172 in the fourth innings, a testament to its history of slowing down as the match progresses.
Highest individual score
Azhar Ali recorded the highest individual score on this ground in Pakistan’s tour of Bangladesh back in 2015. In the second Test, he scored 226 runs in 428 balls as Pakistan registered 557/8 batting first before declaring. The visiting side went on to win the Test by 328 runs.
Best bowling figures
Taijul Islam has the best bowling figures in an innings on this ground. His spell of 8/39 against Zimbabwe in October 2014 as their batting unit got bowled out for just 114 runs in the second innings.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz holds the record for the best bowling figures in a match. He returned with figures of 12/117 vs West Indies in November 2018 to help his side win the Test by an innings and 184 runs.
Highest team total
Banking on a double century from Mahela Jayawardene, Sri Lanka scored 730/6 in their first innings after Bangladesh were bowled out for 232 runs batting first. Kaushal Silva and Kithuruwan Vithanage registered centuries as well, driving the Lankans to the highest team total on this ground.
They won the Test match by an innings and 248 runs after Bangladesh were bowled out for 250 runs in their second innings.
Lowest team total
Pakistani off-spinner Sajid Khan recorded career-best figures of 8/42 during the second Test against Bangladesh in December 2021, as the hosts were bundled out for just 87 runs. This is the only time a team got bowled out under 100 in the longest format at the Shere Bangla National Stadium.
